Dear probably-well-meaning-but-still-the-anonymous-comment-thing-makes-me-a-little-twitchy Skyehawke reviewer who has "been waiting forever" for me to finish He Ain't Heavy:

There's a pity party in here, so I'm cutting to spare you. But if you are pissed at me for not writing porn, your attendance is mandatory. :p )

Geeky little projects and geeky little joy Apr. 2nd, 2005 @ 04:39 am
I'm working on a geeky little art project to get my drawing-muse back in fighting shape, putting the faces of fandom in the uniforms of Amestris. Want in? I need a good reference picture of you, preferably either head-on or three-quarter angle. the_whetstone@livejournal.com is the best way to get it to me if you don't feel like putting your actual photograph on the web and linking from a reply here.

A couple of examples... )

In other news, I had a fabulous lunch with the charming [info]miss_arel and her dad while they were visiting my hometown, and after lunch we snuck off so I could see the shiny that is her sketchbook and all its deliciousness firsthand. Mmm. Yay for eidetic memory and three pretty boys in a pile...

April Fools insanity has come and gone. Jeff Wong is officially the winner of the Biggest Mentally Deranged Attention Whore award. Google him if you dare, but please, spare yourself the pain of his "fan fiction". If you don't, don't say I didn't warn you.

I played about two hours of Voodoo Vince last night. I don't know why this title never got more attention. Things to love: the very extensive jazz soundtrack with great seamless switches between ambient background and main theme, the foley work for the titular Vince, the voice work all around, the lush backgrounds that don't overstep the bounds of poly-count or game speed, the clever puzzles. And Vince is known to exclaim "oooh, shiny!" when he gets new loot. <3 It isn't as good as the LucasArts masterwork Grim Fandango, but it reminds me of that game in a lot of ways and that's a very good thing.

A brief explanation for my recent lack of prolificity is probably in order. Many real life issues - health of family members, health of relationship, job switch for me and school switch for my son - have kicked my ass in spectacular fashion and left me pretty uninspired. However, I have good inspiration and incentive in good people, and I'm working again, finally.

One last note - Samurai Champloo Volume 2 is now out in the US. While I consider the episodes in this volume to be the weakest of the series, they're still great fun and you have no excuse for not at least renting the discs. I mean it. Come on, people. I have no bunnies for Jin/Mugen smut, but that doesn't mean I don't want to read it done well...

So I was making the rounds of my Japanese fanart bookmarks last night, pretty much out of pornhounding boredom. There's one, called Cell in a Prison, that I especially like for the copious amounts of high-quality oekaki work she does. The site is mostly Hughes/Roy, but she gives a fair bit of attention to the gorgeousness that is Havoc, too.

Anyway, the whole point of this post is that if you are even remotely a Hughes/Roy person, you need to go look at her "Youngster Roy/Hughes" web serial and bask in the hotness. Nnnnnnnnngh.

"The Past That Suits You Best" (Hughes/Roy, NC-17) Feb. 13th, 2005 @ 02:24 am
This is for [info]ponderosa121, who probably thought she was providing simple kink inspiration when she gave me "leather couch, boots, and dog tags in the bottom of a glass of Scotch" as components for a fic-on-request starring my canon-ship of choice, Maes Hughes and Roy Mustang. Ha, ha. There's nothing simple in this world for me. Sorry babe, I should have warned you.

Two weeks later, here it is, with thanks to [info]femmelethale for beta reading, and as credited below, to [info]kabe_iscolear, who is by all rights a co-author for contributing the core of the plot and for vigilantly editing it with me until it conformed not only to my expectations, but to his.

Title: The Past That Suits You Best
Author: [info]the_whetstone (with [info]kabe_iscolear)
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Setting: Pre-Series, anime canon. Vague spoilers for episode 25.
Category: Drama, romance, yaoi
Pairing: HughesxRoy
Rating: NC-17
Summary: To an Intelligence officer, dog tags were part of morgue files. The military only issued that form of identification to combat soldiers: a constant reminder of their impending doom, hot-forged and stamped steel intended to be readable on a wearer ruined beyond recognition.

» Het!Fic: Well Made
ZOMG hell freezes over and Whet writes het. This particular rabid bunny attacked me in dead-stop traffic and raped my PDA keyboard for twenty minutes of furious typing. Havoc is my favorite toy EVar. Did I mention het? Don't like it? Don't read it. You've been warned.

Title: Well Made
Author: whetstone ([info]the_whetstone)
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Setting: Manga canon, spoilers through.. 41?
Category: Drama, short, het
Pairing: HavocxLust
Rating: NC-17
Summary: He’s good at her game; too good, really, since she ought to slow him down and make sure he misses his appointment.

» Drabblish: Italian Leather Sofa
This can't rightly be called a fic, as it's a rejected bit from a rejected draft of a little something for [info]ponderosa121 (oh yes, preciousss, teh smex it is coming), but it made me laugh, so I thought I'd keep it around.

Header? Why not.

Even after years of friendship and despite his intelligence training, Maes Hughes could never predict the occasional odd indulgences of Roy Mustang. )
ETA: [info]ponderosa121's glorious illustration!
» Seen this around.
Just a little meme, because I am bored and waiting. For Godot. Or something like that.

I didn't realize how many places I'd been, to tell you the truth. )

In other news, episode 2 of Sukisyo was incredibly funny and the story actually appears to be going somewhere. That's an impressive feat, when you consider I started watching the series just because I was informed it was actual, real live animated yaoi. Mmrr.
» Art rec. Oh, the smexiness.
[info]ponderosa121 drew a picture of bloody, knife-wielding, naked-getting Hughes and it is inarticulate-noise-inducing gorgeous and it totally made my evening better.

:flails:
» War of the Words...
The very first Japanese character I learned was の - "no". It's like the possessive article. It's a silly little thing to be able to recognize when everything else looks like gibberish. But it turns out I have something in common with Mugen, since it's also the first hiragana character he learned to read. He's my soul mate!

Episode 18 of Samurai Champloo, "War of the Words", is out from AnimeForever. Torrent link is right here. If you didn't get on this bandwagon before, the first four eps are out on Region 1 DVD from Geneon, and the rest of it is still available via fansub.

It's actually smart. And animated as well as a feature film. And funny and irreverent and sexy and oh my god I missed it so much.
» Sukisyo
I really don't know how to feel about this. I've just watched the first episode of Sukisyo, the fansub of which you can download via bittorrent from Ayu. In the first two minutes, one pretty yaoi-boy crawls on top of another pretty yaoi-boy and there is much heavy breathing.

Honestly, it's kind of weird. I'm used to seeing this stuff in my head.
» A spoonful weighs a ton...
Right. So. [info]kabe_iscolear got [info]femmelethale to pick up the Flaming Lips record The Soft Bulletin, and I got to hear about how they were listening to it while I was stuck at work and had to settle (not like it was painful) for Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots on the Flaming Lips web site broadcast-player-thingy.

And under the cut are some Flaming Lips lyrics that I think might turn into a gen kyoudai bunny one of these days. So very Ed and Al. But it'll have to wait until after I see the film.

A Spoonful Weighs a Ton )

Also, if you are not afraid of bi/het FMA smut, you should go forthwith to read [info]femmelethale's Flush (NC-17).
» "Crucible" (HavocxRoy, NC-17, Complete)

Title: Crucible
Author: [info]the_whetstone
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Setting: Anime canon (spoilers through 50)
Category: Drama, Romance, Yaoi
Pairing: HavocxRoy
Rating: NC-17
Status: Complete
Summary: He can’t explain, but he wants to remember in these slow, liquid moments that this is a privilege, and to give it voice. To remember, also, that everything would change if they were discovered.

For: [info]miss_arel, as promised, in gratitude for her gorgeous colored Havoc & Roy drawing.

Beta'd by: The fabulous [info]sockren, never afraid to tell me when my details are wrong, and the Alpha Beta, [info]femmelethale (thank you both, this would not exist without your help.)

'Been Caught Stealing', Hughes and Roy (G) )
Good job, kids.
» Oooh, it is to love
[info]miss_arel was coerced, with promises of fic, which is now forthcoming in a very big way maybe tomorrow or the day thereafter, to color a sketch of Havoc and Roy from back in November and it is right here and it is PRETTY.

SO PRETTY.

In other news, my father is staying with us for 10 days. This means that I must do my ficcing and el-jay-ing after he goes to bed, because explaining to Dad that I am happily married and have procreated but enjoy boiporn is just not a conversation I can see fitting in anytime this year.
